About PhotoHello and welcome to The Hungriest Panda!

I’m excited and honored that you’ve come to check out my site.   My name is Ruth Ann, and this is my first foray into the world of blogging.  After working in the fashion industry for 10 years, I moved with my husband from Los Angeles to Shanghai in 2010.  I took this new beginning as an opportunity to start a new creative endeavor around the things that I’m passionate about: food and travel.

I first started this blog as a recipe archive for me and my husband, and also as a simple way to share recipes and life adventures with friends and family.  Over time, it evolved into a journal where I write about meals inspired by personal memories, stories of my life (past and present), and the way I’ve been able to experience different cultures through food and travel.

I’ve always had a desire to learn how to cook and bake but along the way life got busy and I became focused on other things.  This is also a chance for me to reconnect with something that has in many ways shaped my sense of identity, family, and culture.  Some of my fondest memories are based on delicious meals and the wonderful people who prepared them.  Growing up, I would watch in amazement as my mother cooked big meals for our family with such ease.  As an immigrant to the US who barely spoke English at the time, she also taught herself how bake American desserts like chocolate chip cookies on her own.  I hope my cooking adventures can help carry on her tradition.

Here are a few other things to know about me:  I enjoy spicy food, I’ll choose salty over sweet, and I love anything blueberry.  I also love practicing yoga, Moscow Mules, and a good pair of jeans.  My husband makes the best sandwiches and has perfected whatever that technique it is that makes scrambled eggs so super fluffy.  We have a very funny Jack Russell / Pomeranian doggie named Bonkers who is often mistaken for a cat and loves to snack on carrots.

Thanks for reading and letting me share my adventures with you!

  1. Came across your blog because of the review of Evelyn’s ice cream! Looking forward to reading more of your postings. Let me know if you are interested in meeting with other foodies; a number of my friends in Shanghai are food writers, bloggers, or chefs =)
